2023 SANCA ‘Kick Your Habit’ Campaign

The 2023 SANCA ‘Kick your Habit’ campaign runs from June 26 to June 30.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the complexities of addiction and dependency and to spread awareness through experience by challenging individuals in our communities and across the country to give up one thing or habit for a week and experience, albeit briefly, what a substance-dependent might go through in treatment.

Experience leads to education, which is the ultimate objective of the campaign. Whether this 'thing' is caffeine, tobacco, chocolate, or shopping is wholly up to the individual. However, it is important to carefully consider your decision and choose a daily habit.

Raising awareness of the difficulties associated with substance misuse brings us one step closer to reducing the incidence and prevalence of substance misuse in our country. As citizens of this nation, it is our duty to work together to secure a better future for next generations.

40% INCREASE IN SUBSTANCE USE 2030

Population growth will result in a 40% increase in substance use and abuse in Africa by 2030, according to the UNODC's most recent global drug report, released on June 24, 2021.

Only one person in seven has access to treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction are tearing apart the fabric of South African society and are frequently linked to other societal problems (such as violent crime, gender-based violence, child abuse, and rapidly rising HIV/Aids incidence rates).

So, if you are up for the challenge, dare your friends, your family, and your colleagues at work to do the same!
